Banding Program
Each winter, Dr. Doug Osborne and his crew from the University of Arkansas at Monticello trap and band thousands of ducks in their traditional wintering grounds of Arkansas. White Oaks Duck Woods is one of the locations where banding takes place.
Last February, over 2,600 ducks were banded at White Oaks Duck Woods.
Through a partnership with Delta Waterfowl, Sitka, White Oaks Duck Woods and others, we are significantly expanding the size and scope of Dr. Osborne’s banding program, therefore exponentially increasing the number of ducks banded in our flyway each year. Within a few years Dr. Osborne hopes to be banding upwards of 10,000 ducks each year in Arkansas, and with the help of corporate partners and private donors, we are confident we can meet that goal!
